The International Symposium on Terrestrial and Marine Ecological Environment Conservation and Restoration 2019 was held in Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Area from May 25th to 27th. More than 100 people attended the meeting, including experts and scholars in the fields of water ecological protection and environmental education from the United States, Britain, Italy, Bulgaria, Malaysia and China, government Affairs managers, corporate leaders, universities/research institutes, and NGO representatives. Wang Shihua, vice chairman of Fujian Association for Science and Technology, Cheng Yiming, deputy director of Social Affairs Bureau of Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Area, and Tu Rong, vice president of FNU, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony respectively. Academician Xia Jun of Wuhan University, Prof. Chai Fei from College of Marine Sciences, University of Maine, and Prof. Pen-Chi Chiang from Taiwan University, made keynote reports respectively on water environmental security of river and lake, marine and offshore marine ecosystems, and management of healthy basins. Experts and scholars at the conference conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the following issues: monitoring and prevention of marine disasters such as red tides and hypoxia, marine ecological environmental protection and restoration, watershed pollution control and management of healthy basins, and public participation in terrestrial and marine ecological environmental protection, etc. At the same time, a series of countermeasures and suggestions were put forward to solve the pollution problems in the basin, regional and coastal waters.
